About Baptism
What is the meaning of baptism?
- It illustrates Christ's burial and resurrection. (Colossians 2:12)
- It illustrates my new life as a Christian. (Romans 6:4)
Why should I be baptized?
- To follow the example set by Christ. (Mark 1:9)
- Because Christ commanded it. (Matthew 28:19-20)
- It demonstrates that I really am a believer. (1 John 2:3)
Why be baptized by immersion?
- Because Jesus was baptized that way. (Matthew 3:16)
- Every baptism in the Bible was by immersion. (Acts 8:38-39)
- The word "baptize" means "to dip under water".
Who should be baptized?
- Every person who has believed in Christ. (Acts 2:41; 8:12-13)
At Creekwood, we wait until our children are old enough to believe and understand the true meaning of baptism before we baptize them. When a child makes a decision to follow Christ, we gladly baptize them in the Christian faith.
In some denominations, infant christening represents a decision by parents to dedicate their child to Christ. In many ways, that's the same reason we do baby dedications at Creekwood.
